IN MEMORY OF SHERI WINKLER
Last Edited: Thursday, September 04, 2008 12:47 AM
Yesterday I got the sad news that my childhood friend, Sheri Winkler, had passed away. My sister told me. She's usually the person who informs me of news like this. We were together the last time we saw Sheri. And the last image of her that has lived in my memory was her in a beautiful wedding gown. Yes, this was just a couple of years ago. I'm sorry to say I don't have a picture of her that day to put here. Having gone through old boxes and albums of photos, I've come up with only a few pictures.
Although we had lost touch with each other as both our parents divorced shortly after the other during our early teen years, I still cling to those fun, fond childhood memories. I can safely say the best ones Sonja and I had were always with the Winkler's. Hearing the loss of Sheri, has a special feeling of loss because she was so connected to the best times we ever had as kids. I can't describe it. I miss her much like how I miss those good old days with Mike and Polly, Chris and Sheri. I can still remember their birthdays too! Chris is July 1st, and Sheri's just a couple of days away, Sept. 7th.
So, Here's a couple of pictures I found & scanned. As I find more, I'll update this page and add a few more. More changes are coming.
Sheri, thank you for thinking of us and inviting us to your wedding. Here's you and me at my wedding so many years before that.......

EARLY BEGINNINGS
It started out with just us four kids. Our family went to their house. We liked it better that way, because Chris and Sheri always had the newest and neatest stuff to play with. Our parents never spent that kind of money on us.
Camping stories. Now there's a favorite topic. My sister and I still talk about those days. And usually one of us was gone in Germany for the summer while the other stayed home.
A favorite camping story of my still is the time we went to Lyons Camp. That year Sonja was gone in Germany. The Winkler's packed up their Bronco II, trailer and babysitter (Deanna) while we packed up our camper. Off we went on another camping adventure weekend. I remember our campsite was right along side a river.
Camp Leader Mike, lead us all on what started out to be an innocent little hike to go exploring. The trail was fun and easy. Gradually the trail became smaller and thinner, the brush was growing over. Skipping, laughing and playing us kids paid no mind to direction coming or going. When suddenly the sound of a rattler snake on the trail sent everyone screaming and historically running at top speed. I thought we had all just turned around and gone back but a while later and tired from running stopped to catch our breath. Come to discover us kids just took off running, our parent got caught up in the hype and followed us. Next thing you know, we were lost. After reassembling and doing a head count, we continued to walk but in what direction? We were at it for hours. Eventually came back across the river we camped on. It was a relief but also the longest journey back on a riverbed made of big rocks and boulders, ankle twisting pain and lots of slipping. By the time we made it into camp, we were so tired, excitement and adventure was long gone.
I'm not done with the story, but have to pause it right now. I want to get this uploaded and before it gets too late tonight....... Nadya.

and Brother.
The Winkler family at my wedding.
Sheri looked great in this dress too......
I'm working on programming a shout box at the top of this page maybe in another frame where people can type in their memories of her and some touching words to share. But you know how that goes when trying to figure out how to do something or how something works, it always takes longer than you anticipate. I'm going try to do it by this Friday, Sept 5th, which is when her memorial service will be. ~ Nadya
